MS SQL Database Administrator

Perth, Australia

We are currently seeking a  highly skilled and detail-oriented MS SQL Database Administrator to join our team in Perth for a contract position to manage and maintain our client's SQL Server databases. The ideal candidate will ensure database performance, security, and availability while supporting business processes and data-driven decision-making. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and upgrade MS SQL Server instances.

  • Manage database environments, including development, testing, and production.

  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions for improvement.

  • Optimize queries, indexes, and database configurations to enhance efficiency.

  • Implement and maintain database security protocols, including user access and roles.

  • Develop, implement, and test database backup and recovery strategies.

  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery solutions are operational.

  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including re-indexing and updating statistics.

  • Work closely with development teams to design database schemas and support application development.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to other team members as needed.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and policies.

  • Generate regular reports on database performance, usage, and capacity planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications or equivalent work experience may be considered.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in T-SQL scripting and query optimization.

  • Strong understanding of database architecture, normalization, and indexing.

  • Experience with SQL Server tools (e.g., SSMS, Profiler, and Performance Monitor).

  • Knowledge of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.

  • Familiarity with data integration tools (e.g., SSIS) and reporting services (e.g., SSRS).

  • Basic understanding of server operating systems and networking.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or Database Administrator Associate.

  • ITIL or similar certifications.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
