We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator to join our team in Perth for a 6 to 12-month contract position. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented professional to contribute to our innovative organization.


Overview:

As a Database Administrator with 6 years of experience, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our clients database systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. You will work closely with our IT and development teams to support critical applications and assist in database-related projects.


Key Responsibilities:

- Manage and maintain database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) to ensure data integrity, availability, and security.
- Perform routine database administration tasks such as backups, restores, and patching.
- Monitor database performance and implement optimization techniques to enhance efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues promptly.
- Implement and enforce security policies and best practices to protect sensitive data.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and internal security standards.
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data against loss or corruption.
- Perform data restores and disaster recovery testing as needed.
- Collaborate with developers and architects to design and optimize database schemas.
- Participate in database-related design discussions and make recommendations.
- Set up monitoring tools to proactively identify and address database issues.
- Respond to alerts and incidents promptly to minimize downtime.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Create and update documentation for troubleshooting and disaster recovery.
- Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Ensure compatibility and scalability of database systems.


Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong expertise in database administration for various database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
- Proficiency in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance.
- Experience with backup and recovery procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) is a plus.
